华北平原

　　华北平原地势平坦，一望无际，面积约31万平方千米，是中国的第二大平原。

　　过去，华北平原许多地方经常发生旱涝灾害，有“大雨大灾，小雨小灾，无雨旱灾”之说。

　　近几十年来，中国政府大力发展水利事业，初步建成了一套完整的排水防旱系统，极大地改变了本地区多灾多难的面貌。如今，这里已成为著名的粮食和棉花产地。

　　华北平原范围大，人口多，资源丰富，经济比较发达。北京、天津、济南、徐州等重要城市均分布在此。

　　The North China Plain

　　The North China Plain, flat and vast, is the second largest one in China. It has an area of about 310,000 km2.

　　In the past, many places in the North China Plain suffered from floods and drought. There was a saying that a "big disaster is when it is raining hard, a small disaster is when it is drizzling, and drought comes when there is no rain".

　　In recent decades, the Chinese government has been developing water conservancy projects and has built up a comprehensive system of drainage for dealing with floods and averting droughts. Now, the area has become a famous grain and cotton producing area.

　　The North China Plain has a large area and population, rich resources and fairly well developed economy. Some important cities like Beijing, Tianjin, Jinan and Xuzhou are all located here.
