黄　河 

　　黄河发源于青海省巴颜喀拉山脉雅拉达泽山麓，流经青海、四川、甘肃、宁夏、内蒙古、山西、陕西、河南、山东等9个省、自治区，注入渤海，全长5,400多千米，是中国的第二长河。从地图上看，黄河呈一巨大的“几”字形。 

　　Yellow River 

　　The Yellow River originates from the foot of the Yagradagze Mountain of the Bayakala Range in Qinghai Province, passing through nine provinces and autonomous regions of Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan and Shandong, and flowing into the Bohai Sea. Altogether it is over 5,400 km long and is the second longest river in China. Seen from the map, the Yellow River lies in a shape of "几". 

　　黄河上游有许多峡谷，如龙羊峡、刘家峡、青铜峡等。这些峡谷地带水力资源丰富，已建成龙羊峡等大型水电站。 黄河中游穿行于黄土高原，这里水土流失严重，河水中的泥沙含量大，形成了滚滚的“泥河”。 黄河下游主要流经低缓的华北平原，这里河道宽阔，水流变缓，泥沙在此大量沉积，形成了河床比两岸高的“地上河”。  

　　壶口瀑布 

　　壶口瀑布位于山西和陕西的交界处，黄河将此处的河底冲刷出一道30～50米宽的深槽。北来的河水进入槽内，激流汹涌，夺路下泻，形成15～20米高的瀑布，响声如雷，景色十分壮观，它就像沸腾的开水从巨壶倾倒而出，所以称为“壶口”瀑布。 

　　There are many gorges on its upper reaches, such as the Dragon and Sheep Gorge, the Family Liu Gorge and the Bronze Gorge. Such areas have an abundance of water resources and large-scale hydroelectric power stations have been built. 

　　The middle reaches of the Yellow River flow through the Loess Plateau, where there is a serious problem of soil erosion. This part of the river contains large amount of sand, forming a powerful "mud river".

　　The drainage area of the lower reaches of the Yellow River covers the North China Plain, where the river broadens, the flow slows down and the mud and sand deposits form a "hanging river",where the riverbed is actually higher than the surrounding land beyond the built-up banks.  

　　The Hukou (Kettle's Mouth) Falls  

　　The Hukou Falls are located at the juncture of Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces, where there is a 30-50m-wide deep gully scoured by the Yellow River. The turbulent river from north rushes down into the gully, forming a 15-20m-high fall rumbling like thunder. The fall rushes down like boiling water pouring down from a huge kettle, hence its name.
